18 January 2020 It's been a stressful week with Sophie having scans to see the progress of her cancer. I was more nervous than usual as previously we knew the scans would show cancer, but this time we hoped that they wouldn't.
Thankfully Sophie's scan showed no signs of active cancer in her body. This is such promising news for us! She is winning the battle, but we know the fight is far from over. The aggressive nature of Neuroblastoma means there's a high risk of it developing again, so the treatment continues. Sophie will start her first painful cycle of immunotherapy next week.
While we are thrilled that Sophie is doing so well, our excitement is clouded by the knowledge that things could change at any moment. It's hard work trying to live in the moment while also worrying about every bruise, temperature or ache being a sign of cancer coming back. We've seen far too many kids on our Facebook support groups that have relapsed.
We are now more committed that ever to get Sophie to New York to give her the best chance at being cancer free forever.
